Although the death toll remains high, signs are emerging that drastic action could be slowing the spread of the disease, with the rate of infections slightly declining. But across the Atlantic, Americans are preparing for their darkest days of the pandemic. Three out of four US citizens are now under some form of lockdown. In New York a rapid rise in hospitalisations has left the health system nearly at capacity.
