The Cash Me Ousside Girl Is Trying To Remake Herself Into A Rapper (HBO)

Bhad Bhaby’s hip-hop career began as most do, because she’d committed crimes. While the crimes in question were typical of an aspiring rapper (car theft, knife threats), the fact that she committed them at age 13 was fairly atypical, as was their immediate consequence: an appearance on the Dr. Phil show.

If you’re unsure who we’re talking about here, perhaps the phrase “Cash me outside” will jog your memory? Yep, that’s her.

Riding the viral wave of her sudden internet notoriety, the Cash Me Outside Girl, née Danielle Bergoli, took up rap music, signed a contract with Atlantic Records, and re-re-christened herself Bhad Bhaby. And the weirdest part of all is, she’s good. Not just good at rapping (though that in itself is a pleasant surprise) but just generally good. Like a good kid.

Look, we’d be rolling our eyes too, but we visited her and her record-label minders out in the desert where she was shooting her first big-budget music video, fully expecting a classic Florida wild child, flush with cash and fame and behaving as badly and babylike as her stage name portends.

Instead what we met was an extremely sweet, extremely excited teenager who is about as well-mannered, gracious, and nice to be around as any musician we’ve ever met. Even if she does swear like 2 Live Crew.

Built for the rave and forthcoming on Ram Records, Andy C’s ‘What Bass’ has been roadtested during his 13 week XOYO residency, and was given its first radio play on his Beats 1 show on Friday night. This dancefloor-ready cut is the first new music from Andy C since 2016’s ‘New Era’, and will precede a new single for Atlantic Records later this year.

With over 40 awards to date, Andy C’s career has been nothing short of a phenomenon. He’s sold-out Alexandra Palace and Brixton Academy with his own solo shows, played headline slots at the world’s greatest festivals including Creamfields, Glastonbury, EDC, and SW4, and released a string of phenomenal crossover anthems like ‘Heartbeat Loud’ and club tracks like ‘New Era’. He’s also the go-to remixer for the likes of Major Lazer, Sigala, London Grammar and beyond, and the d&b figure recently chosen to host the first drum & bass radio show on Apple Music’s Beats 1, broadcast to over 100 countries.

As the owner and figurehead for Ram Records, which celebrates 25 years in 2017, Andy’s nurtured and developed huge headline artists such as Chase & Status, Wilkinson and Sub Focus, turning it into one of the world’s most respected independent operations across recordings and now festivals like EDC Las Vegas, Creamfields, and SW4 where Ram have hosted their own arenas and stages.

Andy’s main signature motif as a DJ is that he’s guaranteed to be packing tracks that no other DJ has. Hunting, digging, searching and signing: he is constantly immersed in new music. Not only does this ensure a wholly unique experience when you see him live, but it also gives Ram Records a front row seat when it comes to spotting new artists… As the likes of Loadstar, Wilkinson, Calyx & TeeBee, Frankee, Delta Heavy, Culture Shock, DC Breaks, Hamilton, Mind Vortex, Chords and many more can happily confirm.

On 31 March, Andy will complete his 13 week residency run at XOYO. The first d&b artist chosen by the renowned London club, tickets for his entire residency sold out far in advance. The Friday night run has allowed Andy to nurture a weekly crowd on a par with his legendary sets at The End, bringing together older heads and d&b’s new converts together under one roof.

Summer 2017 festival dates include Lovebox, Let it Roll festival, Snowbombing, Lost & Found, Wild Life, Parklife, Dour Festival, Nu Forms, Boardmasters, Dreambeach, Innovation in the Sun, Tomorrowland, Reading Festival, Leeds Festival, Bestival, Middlelands and many more to be announced.
