Armenian protesters blockade court buildings after PM’s call

Protesters blockade entrances to court buildings in the Armenian capital after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called for a demonstration against judges he accuses of political bias. Pashinyan on Sunday called on Armenians to “blockade court buildings across the republic” after a Yerevan court released former president Robert Kocharyan from pre-trial detention. The symbolic protest comes as Pashinyan tries to consolidate power in the ex-Soviet country a year after leading a popular revolt against former president Serzh Sarkisian and corrupt elites. IMAGES

Armenia Genocide protesters scuffle with police outside Turkish Consulate in Greece

Hundreds of Armenians took to the streets outside the Turkish Consulate in Thessaloniki on Wednesday to demand they take responsibility for the Armenian Genocide.

Scuffles broke out between riot police, who were guarding the consulate, and the protesters who had earlier marched through the city waving flags and chanting slogans.

In South-East Turkey, all Christians pray under one roof

In Diyarbakir, the main Kurdish city of South-East Turkey, there were once 46 churches. But today, only one remains open. The others are either destroyed or were closed by the government during clashes between Turkish army and the outlawed Kurdistan Worker’s Party, the PKK. Chaldeans, Armenians, Assyrians and even some Muslims, all come together to celebrate Christmas mass in the Holy Virgin Mary church.
