RAW: Bus crashes on Peru highway, killing 8, injuring 45

A bus carrying travelling from Piura in north-western Peru to the capital, Lima, crashed en route, killing at least eight people and injuring 45 others. The accident occurred on the Pan American Highway at approximately 3 am local time.

Five passengers who were traveling on the upper deck were thrown from the bus and died after landing on rocks in the creek of a riverbed below the highway.

Authorities confirmed that a delegation from the APRA (American Popular Revolutionary Alliance) political party were travelling on the bus to attend the funeral of former president Alan Garcia.
