At least five people were killed and dozens more wounded after supporters of Shia Muslim cleric Muqtada al-Sadr raided a camp of anti-government protesters in Najaf on Wednesday. Footage shows the aftermath of the attack and some of the activists who were injured in the clashes.
Al-Sadr supporters attempted to remove demonstrators from the camp where they held a sit-in.
The attack which is the latest in a series of violent clashes came after the cleric called on his supporters to back security forces.
Al-Sadr who changed his position on the anti-government protests a few times withdrew his support for the protests again after Mohammad Allawi was appointed prime minister-designate on Sunday.
