Aerial images show the destruction in the Bahamas after the Caribbean nation was ravaged by Hurricane Dorian. Dorian was a Category 5 hurricane — the highest on the five-level wind scale — when it hit the northern Bahamas, leaving a trail of destruction and killing at least 20 people. IMAGES

What the Bahamas Look Like Now

At least five people were killed when Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas on Monday. The storm hit the Grand Bahama and Abaco Islands as a Category 5. Storm surges rose 12 to 18 feet above water levels, and winds blew at 185 miles per hour.

The full extent of the damage won’t be known for several days. The U.S. Coast Guard was deployed to the Bahamas on Monday to help with rescue efforts. The storm is expected to move towards Florida on Tuesday.
