Skankandbass is dedicated towards the official promotion of record labels and artists in the world of drum & bass music. Since inception in 2009, Skankandbass has unearthed some of the freshest talents in the scene and has opened many doors for unsigned artists. Now, through Skankandbass Records we release a series of free download singles which aims to further help spread the work of the best unsigned, newcomer artists who deserve more recognition.

SNB060 comes from Petroll, a young producer from The Netherlands who has made a name through features on Differential, Celsius and Soul Lab among others. After grabbing our attention with his ‘Samurai EP’ earlier this year, we’re excited to welcome the Groningen native to Skankandbass Records. ‘Breathe / Affection’ are two both absolutely sublime liquid vocals, with the A-side featuring the soothing vocals of Lottie Woodward.

The return of Loadstar has been marked with heightened anticipation… But looking at their extensive history, there’s no denying their heritage and status within the drum & bass genre. Following the success of their debut ‘Future Perfect’ album, as well as their monumental live shows and kicking off the RamLife compilation in spectacular fashion, the Loadstar legacy is about to hit another milestone.

Having also remixed the likes of Ed Sheeran, Rudimental, Noisia, Breakage, Chase & Status and Wolfgang Gartner, Loadstar uphold regimented production standards. This is something which is clear throughout their discography. Whether it’s for daytime radio airplay, or the murkiest corners of the globe, each veteran commands a musical scope which dwarfs many of their counterparts.
Your first reintroduction to Loadstar’s vast repertoire is vocal roller ‘Native’. Blending the track’s more humanistic elements against the fire of rapid drums and the underlay of piano arpeggios, it exposes a softer composition style which is still vastly intricate. Still dropping on impact, led by peaking voice notes, the bassline begins to distort, demonstrating a darker underbelly. Yet again the duo masters of their craft; Xample and Lomax demonstrate their skyscraper standards which have withheld against the test of time.
On the flipside, the producers dive you head first through a chasm of pounding bass. A driving riddim which juxtaposes the A-side perfectly, ‘Once Again’ is snappy, unapologetic and a track which is set to ignite any festival with the movement of feet. It embodies Loadstar’s Mr. Hyde – it screams the same pent up aggression as ‘Warrior’ and leaves behind just as much destruction.
A record to reaffirm their versatility, this marks a reunion which will send cyberspace and the musical realm into turmoil. Loadstar are back and in their wake stands two tracks as formidable as the artists’ longstanding reputation.

Mindmapper & Silvahfonk – Absolution (Official Video)

Released 20th November 2015.

Redeye: http://bit.ly/1Ppzwly
Juno: http://bit.ly/1kcIUO1
Triple Vision: http://bit.ly/1MBLOSy

For the eleventh installment in the Blendits Audio series, frequent collaborators ”Mindmapper” & ”Silvahfonk” are returning to the Rotterdam based imprint with their strapping ”Absolution EP”.

The A-side effort ”Absolution” evidently showcases the incidental duo’s production skill in which the unyielding beats collide nicely with the live guitar licks and mechanical sound effects that occur throughout.

On the B side, the almost herculean sounding drum patterns are continued on ”Raised”. The ominous pads guide the track into a thriving minute of disarray before turning to a doomy fashion with fierce growls and plenty of drum pattern switches. A bonus track called ”Compromised” is included in the digital release.

The EP is set to be released near the end of November on 12” vinyl + download card.

Safire – Deep Architect ft. Morph

Buy: http://bit.ly/DeepArchitect

Shogun sister label SGN smash their way into 2015 with an EP from Australian drum and bass producer Safire. The Melbourne resident has been making waves throughout the scene over the last couple of years with releases on acclaimed independents Dispatch Records, Invisible Recordings, Mindtech and now SGN.

The A-side, Deep Architect, featuring Safire’s partner in crime Morph, is an up-front neuro groove with dark and techy interludes. Safire deconstructs this highly technical track: “The concept behind Deep Architect represents us overloading the computer beyond its capabilities. Logic brings up an overload message reading ‘Deep Architecture’. Quite a lot of work went into the tune with a lot of rendering of tracks; we counted it to be around 300 tracks bounced down into 100 upon completion.”

Additional Quote:
“SGN has released countless quality tracks released over the years and I’m really glad to be a part of it.”

Ed Rush – Boxcar [Piranha Pool]

Ed Rush
‘Scarabs’ / ‘Box Car’
1. Scarabs
2. Box Car

Label: Piranha Pool Recordings *LAUNCH*
Cat #: PPR001
Genre: Drum & Bass
Full Release: 06-10-2014

An artist synonymous with Drum and Bass, Ed Rush has become a byword for cutting edge, forward thinking beats. Moving through the sounds of hip hop and electro in his early musical years, Ed Rush soon became interested in the emerging London jungle scene. Showing his innate ability to manipulate chopped breakbeats and piles of sub-low bass, it wasn’t long before Ed Rush and Nico dropped the huge ‘Bludclot rtattack’. The first classic to Ed Rush’s name, this proved to be a platform for another collaboration with DJ Trace. Simultaneously developing his own style whilst pushing the boundaries of a genre, classics such as ‘The Mutant’ and ‘Guncheck’ put Ed Rush’s attitude injected productions firmly on the map.

One of the pioneers of new sound dubbed Techstep, Ed Rush soon teamed up within another leading light, Optical; to form what would become one of the most progressive production teams in the scene. In 1998, Ed Rush & Optical released an album universally recognized as changing the landscape of Drum and Bass forever with the legendary, ‘Wormhole’ on Virus Recordings. Still regarded as one of the main catalysts for the Neuro and Techstep sound, ‘Wormhole’ paved the way for household names such as Noisia, Bad Company and many more.

Since then Ed Rush has released a plethora of genre-defining tracks and albums, both solo and with his partner in crime, Optical. Still busy at work on a new Ed Rush & Optical LP due in late 2013, Ed Rush is not merely content with helping shape the scene and remaining one of its most consistent producers. Beginning his own venture, he now looks to the future with the birth of Piranha Pool. An outlet for showcasing new talent and veterans alike, Piranha Pool represents what will be the future of Drum and Bass; so it’s fitting that its first release comes from its creator, Ed Rush.

‘Boxcar’ [Drum & Bass]
The flipside sees Ed Rush change the pace but lose none of the attitude. Featuring rolling drums and ethereal vocals, Ed continues to bring the pain with serrated bass keeping the rave in check. Maintaining the same top level production as the A-side but pushing a different vibe, ‘Boxcar’ shows the versatility to Ed Rush’s productions and caps off a stunning debut from Piranha Pool.

Camo & Krooked – Make The Call (feat. TC) [Drum & Bass Remix]

After blasting onto the Hospital map with their first single All Fall Down / Breezeblock Camo & Krooked are back with another couple of brilliant balls-out belters in the run up to the release of their album Cross The Line later in the autumn.

This double A-side single shows the breadth and brilliance of Camo & Krookeds sound as well as showcasing two of the UKs hottest vocal talents.

First up Bristol based DJ, producer and vocalist TC steps up to the mike on Make The Call. Creaky SFX and squelchy bleeps are paired with epic stabs and delicate synth string melodies in the intro. TCs enticing, polished vocal booms out I got to make the call as the tune drops dramatically into a rampage of catchy melodies, pounding drums, souped up synths and cheeky edits. This one is a fun-filled, party monster that is just roaring for reaction.

Danny Byrd is back and ready to blow 2013 away with this rambunctious double A-side sampler, as we approach the release of his third studio album later this year.

First he teams up with Bristol based Full Cycle legend and Mercury Music Prize winner Roni Size for the explosive, dancefloor-driven “Grit”. Bringing together two legends of the D&B scene for the first time “Grit” has an exuberant, larger than life appeal that will surely make it a favourite amongst DJs and punters alike. Dropping like a car alarm going off in the dance and answered by a juddering sub of gargantuan proportions, the track rolls out with a robotic gospel choir adding intrigue and melodic soul.

The double A is Danny Byrd’s “Love You Like This”. Guaranteed to charm and impress, this is an uplifting, vocal-driven slice of D&B, accessible and engaging and will set the dancefloors on fire with its hands-in-the-air panache. Classic “Stardust” era French House recalled thanks to a tasty Alan Braxe sample, giving this record cross genre appeal. Recalling the halcyon days of disco drum+bass at its funky finest, this record has become an instant classic at Hospitality with the likes of Netsky, High Contrast and Danny Byrd himself pulling it back for the rewind.

This is the brand new double A-side, vinyl-only single from S.P.Y which is being released on limited edition white vinyl.

Lead track “Future Tense” is a six-minute journey into the deeper side of S.P.Y’s production. Sweeping synths, blissed out atmospherics and west-coast male vocals courtesy of US soulster Jo-s dominate for the most part with a growing sense of anticipation. Rolling breaks drive things along with warm instruments and gently echoing repeated “future tense” vocal. Imagine SEAL and Trevor Horn re-born and re-imagined in a post-millennial jungle style and you’re half way there. Expect to hear this one at Sun & Bass this summer for sure.

After blasting onto the Hospital map with their first single — “All
Fall Down / Breezeblock” — Camo & Krooked are back with another couple
of brilliant balls-out belters in the run up to the release of their
album — “Cross The Line” (which is due to drop early October)

Rowdy as ever, this double A-side single shows the breadth and
brilliance of Camo & Krooked’s sound as well as showcasing two of the
UK’s hottest vocal talents.

First up Bristol based DJ, producer and vocalist TC steps up to the
mike on “Make The Call”. Creaky SFX and squelchy bleeps, TC’s
enticing, polished vocal booms out “I got to make the call”. Taking
their influence outside the safety zone of drum+bass and looking to
dance music pioneers Daft Punk, as well as current UK acts like
Example for inspiration.

Camo & Krooked – Make The Call feat TC – OFFICIAL VIDEO

Camo & Krooked “For the original “Make The Call” we wanted to experiment a bit and try something completely new to us. It is an indie-house influenced 4/4 tune switching into dubstep in the middle. TC is on the vocals and we are very proud to have him on board, as for us he is like one of the biggest legends in D+B – his productions are wicked and so is his unique voice.

We also have some remixes of the single, and as you might have noticed
we like to do them on our own so we can make sure they are bang on.

The D+B remix, wich is featured on the vinyl release goes in pretty hard and is the one to play as an intro or last tune of a DJ set to get people rowdy.”

Task Horizon – Focused Locust

Forthcoming on Mainframe Recordings – Available to buy on the 15th October.

‘Focused Locust’ featuring MILK67 on the A-side is a banger! Sporting some funky as hell electro tempos to start with and it later morphs on up to D&B bpm’s to put the dance in a spin that’ll be hard to get out of; the Swiss combo delivers a dangerous mix of synthetic bass and cinematic fx that leave you guessing at every corner. Subtle vocoded vox and smacking kicks drive this one home in fine fashion. Definitely one for the more fun floors who know how to smile!
