With relations between the US and Iran even worse than usual, Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has practiced attacking a fake aircraft carrier.
As part of large-scale military drills across the south of the Iran, the IRGC circled a mock aircraft carrier – made to resemble the Nimitz-class ships of the US Navy, complete with models of warplanes parked on its deck – and attacked it from the air.
Also on the agenda were mine-laying operations, tactics to cut off naval connections between the hypothetical (American) enemy, helicopter missile combat operations, and launching coast-to-sea missiles.
Washington’s ‘maximum pressure’ campaign against Tehran has escalated animosity between the nations in recent months, and the Iranian government is keen to show it’s not afraid to fight.
