Ahead of International Women’s Day, AFPTV is moving a series of portraits of women working in male-dominated professions. Fatou Syllah and her cousin Fatou Camara are mechanics. They opened their own garage in Dakar, Senegal, 13 years ago. When “Fatou Fatou Mercedes” first launched, they were met with suspicion from potential clients, unconvinced that a woman could be as good of a mechanic as a man. But over time, they gained people’s confidence and today are running a successful small business.
