Hurricane Sally downed trees, flooded streets and homes as it pounded the US Gulf Coast states of Alabama and Florida with torrential rain. There have been so many tropical storms in the Atlantic this year that the UN’s World Meteorological Organization, which names the tempests, is about to run out of names for only the second time in history.
