The protest was sparked after a policeman gave a penalty to a driver in the city. The local resident reportedly fought with the officer and colleagues. Soon after, more than 1,000 people arrived outside the Interior Ministry of Adjara, demanding the resignation of the head of local patrol police Malhas Batiashvili. According to the protesters, the amount of driving fines has significantly increased since he has entered office.
