Exclusive Interview with ‘Charlie Hebdo’ Cartoonist Luz

In an exclusive interview, VICE News meets Luz, the surviving Charlie Hebdo cartoonist behind the magazine’s controversial Prophet Muhammad covers.

Speaking with us in his sniper-proof Paris apartment, Luz describes the scene he witnessed after gunmen attacked the magazine’s offices, explains the ideas behind the magazine’s latest cover, and addresses the mixed reactions it has sparked. He also discusses how things can quickly spiral out of control when breaking taboos in the internet age, and offers his surreal sense of becoming an unwitting icon of free expression.

On the Front Lines with the Ukrainian Army: Russian Roulette (Dispatch 89)

Since mid-January, fighting between the Ukrainian military and Russian-backed rebels in Eastern Ukraine has escalated. Dozens of civilians have died due to the heavy shelling.

The rebels of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) have been attacking Ukrainian Army positions in an effort to reach the city of Sloviansk. In this dispatch, VICE News travels to the Ukrainian Army’s front lines in the village of Kodema to see how soldiers there, clad in German and British gear that has been donated to them, are preparing for the much talked-about DNR offensive.

We also visit the Ukrainian-controlled mining town of Dzerzhynsk to see firsthand what effects the fighting between the two sides has had on the local population.

DLR feat. Break – Human Error

Buy: http://bit.ly/1Hqcedm

Following a string of successful label releases in a short period of time, DLR is ready to unleash his debut solo album on Dispatch Recordings, entitled ‘Seeing Sounds’.

Having previously collaborated with Octane on the ‘Method In The Madness’ album, DLR has quickly established his own signature sound; an instantly recognizable groove mischievously poking through the mix, terrorizing dancefloors in a truly unique way.

As an album concept, ‘Seeing Sounds’ is DLR’s exploration into sound design and how the manipulation of organic elements and subtle soundscapes can create imagery within the music; to set the scene and immerse the listener up to a cinematic level.

Life After the Massacre: Terror in Peshawar

On the morning of December 16, armed members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan entered the Army Public School in Peshawar, the largest city in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The men moved from classroom to classroom, telling the schoolchildren to say their prayers before shooting them at point-blank range. According to the military, the massacre left 141 people dead, including 132 children.

VICE News traveled to Peshawar to meet with survivors, paramedics, and relatives of victims of the attack, and to learn how the region is coming to terms with the massacre.

Frankee – Drop It Low

Frankee – Drop It Low

Pre-Order here: http://po.st/FrankeeAllFourOneiT

Subscribe for more – http://po.st/SubscribeRamYT

Originating from the bass-heavy hotbed that is London town, Frankee is one of many producers that are helping to shape drum & bass for a new era. And having already expelled himself from the tide of competition clawing for the top, he’s created his own identity with nerve-twitching, eardrum encapsulating releases.
His debut ‘Turning Point’ EP saw him elevated above his predecessors, whilst monstrous sleuth ‘Gully’ became a track which resounded throughout last year, a sure-fire weapon for every dancefloor detonator.
This time, however, Frankee covers every base within the space of a four-track centrepiece. From the intricately woven feat of ‘Deep Down’, back to the zigzagging bassline of ‘Drop it Low’, every avenue is crossed to display his prestige in the world of production standards.

A fairground of musicality, ‘Drop it Low’ is the perfect reintroduction to Frankee’s ability to flip the switch and take you into a quirkier dimension of sound. The riff is undeniably catchy; grabbing you by the shoulders and submerging you in pulses of reverberating subs. Snapping, biting and with commanding vocal samples that literally throw themselves at you, Frankee is back and proving his merit.

Sex, Slavery, and Drugs in Bangladesh (Trailer)

Bangladesh is one of the few Muslim nations where prostitution is legal, and the country’s largest brothel is called Daulatdia, where more than 1,500 women and girls sell sex to thousands of men every day.

Daulatdia is infamous for drug abuse and underage prostitution, and many of its sex workers are victims of sexual slavery who were trafficked into the area and sold to a pimp or a madam. They are forced to work off the fee that was paid for them, a debt that takes years to clear because they receive as little as a dollar for sex.

VICE News correspondent Tania Rashid visited the notorious Bangladeshi brothel — where human trafficking, underage prostitution, and drugs are commonplace — and met the traffickers and the trafficked, as well as the clientele.

Blood Diamonds and Religious War: Diamonds and Division

The Central African Republic is one of the poorest countries in the world, but it is also rich in natural resources. One of the official mining sectors has collapsed amid the country’s ongoing conflict, and now both sides are benefitting from the illicit trade of gold and diamonds. Clashes over control of the many mines have also created religious tension in places where there previously had been none.

VICE News traveled to mines located in the heart of the Central African Republic to see how the battle over natural resources is playing out in one of the world’s most violent conflicts.

A-Cray – Diverted

Released 1st February 2015.

Following another amazing year of heavily supported releases from the likes of Hypoxia, T-Phonic, Juventa, Six Blade and label boss A.M.C, we’re barging into 2015 with the same no-holds-barred attitude. And it all kicks off with A-Cray.

Regulars at the world renowned Czech drum & bass festival Let It Roll and followers of Phace & Misanthrop’s agenda-setting imprint NeoSignal will need no introduction… This 19-year-old’s pedigree has been established for several years. Nominated for Best Newcomer at last year’s Drum&BassArena Awards, his reputation is developing serious with every release. Naturally both of these tracks showcase just why he’s enjoying such widespread scene-acclaim.

‘Diverted’ is all about the tease. Igniting with an eerie, iced-out intro we’re soon hurtled into a rising bass hook that spirals up and up and up demonically with a mischievous sense of paranoia. Rich in chest-press kicks and warm, glock-popping snares, there’s a strong sense of timelessness that will befit D&B DJs of any sub-genre.
