Missing Civilian Bodies found in Mass Graves: Russian Roulette (Dispatch 63)

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News

On July 24, 14 bodies were exhumed from a burial site in Sloviansk. The victims were civilians, all of whom are believed to have been killed by pro-Russia separatists when they were occupying the area. According to Ukrainian officials, there are roughly 300 people missing in Sloviansk, and mass and individual graves are consistently being found.

VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky investigated what may have been behind these murders, traveling to the mass grave site near Sloviansk as the bodies were being unearthed. He also met up with journalist Chris Miller, who found signed death warrants and proof that the separatists were operating under their own form of martial law while controlling Sloviansk.

Cartel Oil Theft Leads to Deadly Explosion: Cocaine & Crude (Part 3)

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News

Suroosh Alvi visits Texmelucan, a city devastated by an illegal oil tap explosion in 2010.

Mexico’s notoriously violent drug cartels are diversifying. Besides trafficking narcotics, extorting businesses, and brutally murdering their rivals, cartels are now at work exploiting their country’s precious number one export: oil.

Every day as many as 10,000 barrels of crude oil are stolen from Mexico’s state-run oil company, Pemex, through precarious illegal taps, which are prone to deadly accidents. Pemex estimates that it loses $5 billion annually in stolen oil, some of which ends up being sold over the border in US gas stations. As police fight the thieves, and the cartels fight each other, the number of victims caught in the battle for the pipelines continues to climb.

VICE News sent Suroosh Alvi to Mexico to see the effects of cartel oil theft firsthand.

From ISIS to the Islamic State (Trailer 2)

Watch now on news.vice.comhttp://bit.ly/1lENvT7

The Islamic State continues to release gruesome videos of the frequent executions taking place in the caliphate the group has established in parts of Iraq and Syria — but little other information has trickled out. Granted unprecedented access, VICE News spent weeks in the caliphate to find out how the Islamic State, formerly known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), is going about the business of running the region it has declared its own.

In the city of Raqqa, we see how the Islamic State goes about the relatively mundane business of running a grain mill. But we also witness the methodical grooming of children to be jihadists, and the emergence of new Sharia police and courts.

Stealth
A: Homage (Back To You) feat. Stylus AA: Smash It

Staying true to his name, Stealth has craftily taken centre stage. Every record he’s released oozing with sophistication has repeatedly stolen the spotlight. And this next one is no exception.
The production connoisseur yet again goes for the aural jugular, using ProgRAM as a launch pad. Stealth demonstrates the imprint’s forward thinking movements and command of a genre which often goes unmatched. The relationship has been harmonious; alongside ProgRAM, he’s already made a crater sized impact within the dnb community… And it’s not difficult to see why.

‘Homage’ leads in a tightly fashioned intensity. Dark, brooding and with plucky percussion, it’s a tribute to the sound Dillinja mastered. An instantly recognisable vocal sample is filtered through the record’s menace, meandering perfectly between the bassline’s thumps which eventually drop us into LFO-lead chaos. Piece by piece the main melody begins to build, throbbing until it completely over-takes the record’s more humanistic elements. Audibly stocky, yet with a dimension that rings true of Stealth’s icy production, it’s a relentless roller with a nasty bite.

Next up, ‘Smash It’ still holds onto the merciless setting of its predecessor, but also offers something completely different. With a bristling rhythm that steps its way into a haunting crescendo, Stealth uses this break to highlight the track’s imposing detail; it trickles, floods and then the dam breaks due to the build up’s audible weight. Progressing deeper into the mix, the track is underpinned by quaking sub bass. An insistent kick and snap of drums merges against steeply elevating note loops, laying out Stealth’s finely combed conundrum of complex yet hard hitting composition. Both ‘Homage’ and ‘Smash It’ receive the innovative-stamp of approval, playing on more contemporary elements but also delving deep into the 90s, promising both tracks remain timeless.

Stealth is pushing his influence into every corner, with his late night vibes commanding even the hardest of crowds. So, yet again, it’s time to get with the ProgRAM, and succumb to one of the scene’s biggest contenders.

Operation Protective Edge Displaces More Gazans: Rockets and Revenge (Dispatch 9)

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News

Israel’s military offensive, Operation Protective Edge, is now in its fourth week. More than 1,200 Palestinians and 50 Israelis have been killed, and the fighting shows little sign of letting up. The majority of those killed in Gaza have been civilians, with many strikes hitting schools, homes, and hospitals. About 40 percent of Gazans have been told by Israel to evacuate, but they have few if any options for where to evacuate to.

In our ninth dispatch from Israel and Palestine, VICE News correspondent Danny Gold is in Gaza talking to Palestinians as they sift through the rubble of their homes, and visiting makeshift outdoor and indoor camps where displaced residents have fled.

Inside the Zetas Cartel: Cocaine & Crude (Part 2)

In Part 2 we tour Pemex’s fragile operations in the Burgos Basin, and sit down with a member of the infamous Los Zetas cartel.
