Missing Civilian Bodies found in Mass Graves: Russian Roulette (Dispatch 63)

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News

On July 24, 14 bodies were exhumed from a burial site in Sloviansk. The victims were civilians, all of whom are believed to have been killed by pro-Russia separatists when they were occupying the area. According to Ukrainian officials, there are roughly 300 people missing in Sloviansk, and mass and individual graves are consistently being found.

VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky investigated what may have been behind these murders, traveling to the mass grave site near Sloviansk as the bodies were being unearthed. He also met up with journalist Chris Miller, who found signed death warrants and proof that the separatists were operating under their own form of martial law while controlling Sloviansk.

From ISIS to the Islamic State (Trailer 2)

Watch now on news.vice.comhttp://bit.ly/1lENvT7

The Islamic State continues to release gruesome videos of the frequent executions taking place in the caliphate the group has established in parts of Iraq and Syria — but little other information has trickled out. Granted unprecedented access, VICE News spent weeks in the caliphate to find out how the Islamic State, formerly known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), is going about the business of running the region it has declared its own.

In the city of Raqqa, we see how the Islamic State goes about the relatively mundane business of running a grain mill. But we also witness the methodical grooming of children to be jihadists, and the emergence of new Sharia police and courts.

Stealth
A: Homage (Back To You) feat. Stylus AA: Smash It

Staying true to his name, Stealth has craftily taken centre stage. Every record he’s released oozing with sophistication has repeatedly stolen the spotlight. And this next one is no exception.
The production connoisseur yet again goes for the aural jugular, using ProgRAM as a launch pad. Stealth demonstrates the imprint’s forward thinking movements and command of a genre which often goes unmatched. The relationship has been harmonious; alongside ProgRAM, he’s already made a crater sized impact within the dnb community… And it’s not difficult to see why.

‘Homage’ leads in a tightly fashioned intensity. Dark, brooding and with plucky percussion, it’s a tribute to the sound Dillinja mastered. An instantly recognisable vocal sample is filtered through the record’s menace, meandering perfectly between the bassline’s thumps which eventually drop us into LFO-lead chaos. Piece by piece the main melody begins to build, throbbing until it completely over-takes the record’s more humanistic elements. Audibly stocky, yet with a dimension that rings true of Stealth’s icy production, it’s a relentless roller with a nasty bite.

Next up, ‘Smash It’ still holds onto the merciless setting of its predecessor, but also offers something completely different. With a bristling rhythm that steps its way into a haunting crescendo, Stealth uses this break to highlight the track’s imposing detail; it trickles, floods and then the dam breaks due to the build up’s audible weight. Progressing deeper into the mix, the track is underpinned by quaking sub bass. An insistent kick and snap of drums merges against steeply elevating note loops, laying out Stealth’s finely combed conundrum of complex yet hard hitting composition. Both ‘Homage’ and ‘Smash It’ receive the innovative-stamp of approval, playing on more contemporary elements but also delving deep into the 90s, promising both tracks remain timeless.

Stealth is pushing his influence into every corner, with his late night vibes commanding even the hardest of crowds. So, yet again, it’s time to get with the ProgRAM, and succumb to one of the scene’s biggest contenders.

Operation Protective Edge Displaces More Gazans: Rockets and Revenge (Dispatch 9)

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News

Israel’s military offensive, Operation Protective Edge, is now in its fourth week. More than 1,200 Palestinians and 50 Israelis have been killed, and the fighting shows little sign of letting up. The majority of those killed in Gaza have been civilians, with many strikes hitting schools, homes, and hospitals. About 40 percent of Gazans have been told by Israel to evacuate, but they have few if any options for where to evacuate to.

In our ninth dispatch from Israel and Palestine, VICE News correspondent Danny Gold is in Gaza talking to Palestinians as they sift through the rubble of their homes, and visiting makeshift outdoor and indoor camps where displaced residents have fled.

Phase – Won’t Stop

Buy: http://bit.ly/AlbatrossEP

Versatile, dependable Swiss label Demand Records are back, showcasing their new Albatross EP by prodigious 18 year old Belgium based producer Phase – an artist whom they first unearthed and exhibited last summer with the vibey, liquid roller pairing of Ways Of Thought/No Doubt – a record which caused quite a stir when it was first released.

Turning up the heat even more, refining and distilling down his production technique and sound into something much more unique and hard hitting, whilst at the same time retaining his original liquid orientated soundscapes, Phase’s new EP combined aspects of rugged, low end experimentation with heady summer vibes. Combining emotional, organic instrumentation with a lovely selection of varied vocal performers – elements that lift the gifted producer out of strictly dancefloor territory into that of real musicianship and song writing – banging, uncluttered beats and downright dutty reese bass work, Phase’s music comes across as a bastard hybrid of epic proportions.

Won’t Stop combines jazzy samples, pitched down, delayed vocal samples, rugged drum fills and a ruckus, old school jump up, jungalist sub bass line that is just ready to explode onto dancefloors around the world – what more could you want?

The Gangs That Inherited Pablo Escobar’s Drug Empire: Cooking with Cocaine

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News

In Colombia, the heirs to Pablo Escobar’s drug empire are conducting business as usual — though with a somewhat lower profile. Today’s Medellin drug cartels are highly structured and run much like multinational corporations. But violent gangs operating in the city’s slums provide the muscle; known as combos, they’ve carved Medellin into fiefdoms, imposing invisible borders between gang territory — borders that, when ignored, often get people killed.

VICE News travelled to Medellin to meet gang members — along with top cartel leaders and assassins — who revealed the inner workings of the city’s modern-day cocaine industry.

Logistics – As Sure As Sunrise (feat. Hugh Hardie) [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]

Buy “Polyphony” from iTunes: http://hospi.tl/polyphony44?app=itunes or the Hospital Shop: http://hospi.tl/polyphony43

Big summer vibes in the new Logistics video for “As Sure As Sunrise” featuring Hugh Hardie.

His first release since 2012’s ‘Fear Not’, the man behind some of d+b’s biggest anthems returns with his brand new long player. Having spent the last two years collaborating with big brother Dan Nu:Tone on the Nu:Logic project, Logistics takes solo control of the studio set up once more to unleash his latest monsters.

A return to the classic Hospital sound which Logistics has helped shape; uplifting piano chords, euphoric basslines and sublime vocal chops abound, alongside acoustic guitars and luscious strings. Collaborators on this project include new talents Hugh Hardie and Maduk, veteran producer Sonic, vocalists Will Robert and Lifford, and of course brother Dan Nu:Tone.

An album of organic, dnb soul, as Hospital hits its 18th year in business Logistics brings us a reminder of his well renowned talent with an added sense of maturity in his production.

Protecting Oil from Mexico’s Drug Cartels: Cocaine & Crude (Part 1)

Break – Soldier

Buy: https://t.co/VzIU5glz6F

During a career that has spanned over a decade, if there’s one producer in the world of drum & bass who constantly and consistently delivers top quality output then you need look no further than one name: Break. When it comes to A-list beat makers it doesn’t really get much bigger. Owner of Symmetry Recordings with an exceptional catalogue of music spread across some of the scenes most respected labels, Sigma and Life Recordings are extremely excited and proud to present their latest single from the man himself. Soldier switches up the mood yet still retains that heavyweight trademark Break sound. Shuffling two step breaks and gut wrenching low end, a staple of much of his material, give it more of a darker edge.

Soldier is reminiscent of Break’s material on DNAudio and is proof that when it comes to the raw basics of this music: just drums, just bass… there is no one who does it better. Let it be known that Soldier is definitely one for the heads and those bass stabs on the second drop. You have been warned.

With the stamp of approval coming from one of drum & bass’s highly regarded musicians it’s more evidence that Life Recordings is moving in the right direction and there’s more exciting stuff to come. For now though… it’s time to Groove With It.

We’re down to the last remaining tickets for #andycallnight – ANDY Cat O2 Academy Brixton.

Following Andy C’s sell out show at Electric Brixton in April, monumental demand has meant the illustrious RAM Records boss is back on the All Night rampage in the Capital. Returning home to continue where he left off, this landmark All Night session on Friday 31st October is guaranteed to tip the dancefloor into drum and bass oblivion. This will be Andy’s final solo stint in the UK this year and promises to be an energetic array of bass driven beats from the off!

Further enhancing the magnitude of this occasion will be the majestic auditorium used to host this landmark event. Promising an atmosphere to exceed the unprecedented carnage of last time, this next instalment will surpass all that’s gone before and can legitimately be considered the biggest and most memorable night of Andy’s career.

Expect mammoth stage structures, with bespoke lighting and production designed especially to augment the famed ‘All Night’ experience. A must for all Andy C and music fans in general, who are hard enough to survive a second slaying from ‘The Executioner.’ Those who dare, will truly be rewarded…
